Sharks' Melker Karlsson: Opens scoring in win Tuesday

Karlsson potted his first goal of the season in a 3-2 win over the Islanders on Tuesday.

Analysis:

The fourth-line winger had a fine night in addition to opening the scoring for the Sharks, as he also fired four shots on goal and finished with a plus-1 rating. After a 24-point showing over 53 games in his rookie campaign, Karlsson took a small step back last year with 19 points in 65 contests. The Swede's ice time also decreased by nearly two full minutes to 13:31 in 2015-16, so he'll definitely need to prove himself if he hopes to keep his job in the NHL this season.
