Sharks' Aaron Dell: Comes away victorious in first NHL start

Dell saved 21 of 23 shots the Islanders put on him in his NHL debut Tuesday, a 3-2 win.

Analysis:

As a 27-year-old rookie with no draft pedigree, expectations are pretty low for Dell, but he exceeded them in this one. In fact, he's exceeded them throughout his career in the minors, especially while posting AHL save marks of .927 and .922 the last two years. Dell won't see a ton of work behind Martin Jones, but this solid first start will surely make the Sharks feel more comfortable rolling him out when they have to give their No. 1 netminder a break.
