Maple Leafs' William Nylander: Makes Opening Night roster

Nylander has made the Maple Leafs and will suit up for Opening Night, James Mirtle of The Globe and Mail reports.

Analysis:

Nylander becomes the next highly touted Leafs youngster to officially crack the big club's roster after fellow forward Mitch Marner was confirmed earlier in the week. The 2014 eighth overall pick is just 20, but already has a couple successful pro seasons under his belt, as he racked up 77 points in 75 games with AHL Toronto from 2014-16. In addition, Nylander recorded 13 points in a 22-game cup of coffee with the Maple Leafs last year, so he should be ready to make an impact on the game's biggest stage. Per the report, the Swede will skate as part of an exciting third line with budding superstar rookie Auston Matthews and Zach Hyman when the Leafs travel to Ottawa for their season opener Wednesday.
