Flames' Johnny Gaudreau: Inks six-year extension Monday

Gaudreau signed a six-year contract extension with the Flames on Monday, commanding an average of $6.75 million annually, Sportsnet reports.

Analysis:

Johnny Hockey was tendered a qualifying offer as a restricted free agent in late June, only to finally put pen to paper on a new deal just two days before the Flames' season opener against the Oilers in Edmonton. In terms of both length and total value, the stud playmaker's new contract is similar to the one procured by Anaheim's Ryan Kesler this past summer. As you would expect, Gaudreau will line up on the top line and first power-play unit this season after finishing with career highs a season ago -- 30 goals, 48 assists, and a whopping 217 shots on goal. He's worthy of a first-round selection in most fantasy formats.
