Senators' Bobby Ryan: Sits pine for first period of loss

Ryan was benched in the first period of Saturday's 3-2 preseason overtime loss to the Canadiens because he missed a team meeting, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports. The winger had a power-play assist in 11:59 of ice time.

Analysis:

Cody Ceci joined Ryan on the pine in the first period. While this should be a non-issue moving forward, it's worth mentioning for the mere fact that new coach Guy Boucher clearly isn't messing around. The Sens are ready to win now, and even though it's just preseason, the 29-year-old winger that notched 56 points last year is not an exception to team rules. Looking past this blunder, Ryan is primed for another consistent campaign with upside for more in 2016-17.
