Sharks' Tomas Hertl: Misses first preseason game

While Hertl (knee) took part in an intrasquad scrimmage Sunday, per Kevin Kurz of CSN Bay Area, he has yet to draw into a preseason contest.

Analysis:

Not much has been made of Hertl's injury, which dates back to the Stanley Cup Finals, but this latest report notes that the experiment of putting Nikolay Goldobin on Hertl's line during the scrimmage was a failure; of course, that likely has more to do with the rookie Goldobin doing rookie things, and not a poor reflection on Hertl. The 22-year-old's next chance for game action will be this Friday, when the Sharks play host to the Coyotes for their second exhibition contest.
