Flames' Mikael Backlund: Exits World Cup of Hockey to rehab concussion

Backlund (concussion) will head back to Calgary to rehab, Craig Custance of ESPN reports.

Analysis:

Due to a concussion sustained during Tuesday's World Cup of Hockey matchup with Finland, Backlund will miss the rest of the tournament. The 27-year-old will now turn his attention to recovering in time for the Flames' season opener Oct. 12 against the Oilers. Coming off his best campaign to date (47 points in 82 games) there is plenty of excitement that the playmaking center has further improvement in store.
