Red Wings' Ryan Sproul: Pens two-year extension

Sproul signed a two-year contract extension with the Red Wings on Friday, the Detroit Free Press reports. The deal is worth $600,000 in the NHL and $100,000 in the minors for 2016-17, and amounts to $650,000 next year.

Analysis:

Sproul will contend for a spot on the Opening Night roster. He's lauded for his offensive skill and has a legitimate chance of making it with the big club partly due to the fact that he's no longer waiver exempt.
