Flames' Mikael Backlund: May be dealing with concussion

Backlund is believed to have sustained a concussion while participating in World Cup of Hockey action, TSN Radio Vancouver reports.

Analysis:

Backlund was on the receiving end of a nasty hit up high from defenseman Sami Lepisto in Tuesday's game against Finland. He was held out of Wednesday's contest against Team North America, which ended in an overtime loss, but Sweden has advanced to the semifinals. Between this injury and not cracking the scoresheet in four games, including the preliminary round, it's been a rough tournament for Backlund, who reportedly will meet with Flames doctors to undergo further evaluation. We won't jump to conclusions, but there's reason to believe he'll be removed from the international competition.
