Sabres' Hudson Fasching: Faces uphill battle for roster spot

Fasching's chances of making the Sabres "might be slim," the Olean Times Herald reports.

Analysis:

The University of Minnesota alum signed with the Sabres immediately after his junior season, playing seven games over the final stretch of the season and scoring a goal and an assist. The 6-foot-2 power winger has lots of intangibles, but the Sabres will likely elect to send him to AHL Rochester for a chance to get more consistent playing time rather than being used sparingly as a fourth-line forward with the big club. The Sabres have very few spots available with Marcus Foligno, Nicolas Deslauriers, Brian Gionta and Matt Moulson likely serving as the bottom-six wingers. Fasching scored 20 goals in 37 games in his final year with the Gophers, and long-term projects to be a second or third-line winger; however, his fantasy value is nil at this point in his career.
