Sabres' Robin Lehner: Sheds weight for upcoming season
Lehner, who is coming off a high ankle sprain that limited him to just 21 games last year, seems to have lost "around 40 pounds" this summer, reports the Olean Times Herald.
Analysis:
Lehner was listed at 240 pounds at the beginning of the season last year and admitted that he made some "life changes," including changing his diet. Although he's also unsure how the weight loss will affect his play, the 6-foot-5 Swede is very optimistic and recognizes that he has a special opportunity in Buffalo be the franchise's No. 1 goalie as they head into a new era. After undergoing surgery in March for his ankle, Lehner stayed in Buffalo for the summer and worked on his agility and speed. He sported a very good .924 save percentage during the 2015-16 season, and is not in danger of losing his job to incumbent backup Anders Nilsson. Lehner has the potential to be a borderline top-15 goalie and should be ready to go for training camp.
