Red Wings' Luke Glendening: Progressing from ankle injury

Glendening sustained a badly bruised ankle at the end of last season, though he's been skating over the summer and is optimistic that he'll be ready for the start of the 2016-17 season, telling the Detroit Free Press, "So far, so good. Hopefully, it will keep turning in the right direction. We've had enough time off; I should be all set."

Analysis:

Glendening is a staple on the Wings' penalty kill, averaging 3:34 of ice time in that spot over the last two seasons. While the undrafted winger doesn't add much offense on his own -- 21 points in 81 games last season -- the 27-year-old is a strong line defender who makes his presence felt on the forecheck. If your league counts hits, Glendening is worth a look as he laid into opponents 143 times in 2015-16.
