Sharks' Nieto signs one-year deal

San Jose Sharks restricted free-agent forward Matt Nieto signed a one-year contract on Monday.

Financial terms were not disclosed by the team, but TVA's Renaud Lavoie reported the contract was worth $735,000.

Nieto collected eight goals, nine assists and 10 penalty minutes in 67 games with San Jose last season. The 23-year-old led the Sharks with a pair of short-handed tallies.

"Matt brings tremendous speed to our lineup and is someone that opposing teams must be aware of when he is on the ice," San Jose general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement. "His quickness plays exactly into our team mentality and we feel that he played some of his most effective hockey down the stretch during our playoff run this past season."

A second-round selection in the 2011 draft, Nieto has scored 28 goals and set up 40 others in 205 career contests with the Sharks.
