Islanders' Scott Mayfield: Re-signed by Islanders

Mayfield signed a two-year contract with the Islanders on Tuesday, Arthur Staple of Newsday Sports reports.

Analysis:

Mayfield spent a majority of the 2015-16 in the AHL, but also appeared in six NHL games with the Islanders. He netted one goal without an assist through those six contests while averaging 17:07 of ice time. At just 23 years old, it would likely take a couple of injuries to his fellow New York defensemen for the blueliner to have much of an impact in terms of fantasy value next season.
