Sabres' Ryan O'Reilly: Impaired driving case dropped

The Crown has dropped its impaired driving case against O'Reilly, which was supposed to begin Monday, CTV London reports.

Analysis:

O'Reilly was charged after his pickup truck was alleged to have struck a Tim Hortons coffee shop in London, Ontario in the early hours of July 9, 2015. The Crown decided to drop the case after no eyewitnesses could place O'Reilly at the scene of the accident, and O'Reilly claims that he was not behind the wheel at the time. There was some trepidation toward O'Reilly's status for the beginning of the 2016-17 season due to the trial, but with the charges dropped he's no longer expected to miss any time. The versatile center led the Sabres with 60 points and all NHL forwards in ice time per game. His seven-year, $52.5 million extension will kick in this coming season.
