Avalanche's Tyson Barrie: Files for arbitration

Barrie officially filed for arbitration on Tuesday, Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun reports.

Analysis:

With the two sides yet to agree on a contract, Barrie has now elected to file for arbitration, meaning both sides will be able to argue their case before a neutral third party settles the dispute. Barrie was extended a qualifying offer from the Avalanche just over a week ago despite trade rumors earlier in the month, so it would seem likely the two parties eventually come to some sort of agreement by the end of the month. Barrie notched 13 goals and an impressive 36 assists this past season and is a player the Avalanche would like to have a chance to develop further.
