The Vancouver Canucks signed defenseman Philip Larsen to a one-year deal at $1.025 million on the first day of free agency Friday.

Larsen spent the last two seasons in the KHL. He had 11 goals and 25 assists in 52 games last season.

"Philip is a skilled, right shot defenceman who can anchor a power play," general manager Jim Benning said. "He had a terrific year in the KHL last season and we look forward to him adding offence from the blue line."

The 26-year-old has played 125 games in the NHL, recording eight goals and 23 assists.
