Alex Khokhlachev is heading back to Russia.

The Boston Bruins prospect, who was selected 40th overall at the 2011 NHL Draft, has signed a two-year deal with the KHL club St. Petersburg, the club announced Friday.

Khokhlachev averaged 0.87 points per game in 197 appearances at the AHL level since 2013, but was only afforded nine games with the Bruins in that time.

Prior to the start of training camp this past season, Khokhlachev expressed his frustration over not getting playing time in Boston, saying, "If they don't give me the chance to play, why am I here?"

The Bruins will retain the restricted free agent's rights should he decide to return to the NHL in the future.
