Bruins' Torey Krug: Inks four-year deal with Bruins

Krug (shoulder) signed a four-year, $21 million contract with the Bruins on Thursday, Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun reports.

Analysis:

It was important for the Bruins to lock down Krug, an impending restricted free agent, before free agency opens on July 1, as he was arguably Boston's most productive defenseman last season -- he certainly was the team's top offensive producer from the blue line, racking up 44 points (four goals, 40 assists) over 81 games. The 25-year-old is an integral member of the B's power-play unit, making him a valuable commodity in fantasy leagues. Krug underwent right shoulder surgery on April 21, and is expected to need around six months to fully recover from the procedure, so owners will want to monitor his recovery once training camp gets underway in September.
