Avalanche's Andreas Martinsen: Inks one-year extension

The Avalanche re-signed Martinsen to a one-year contract Friday.

Analysis:

Despite that he went undrafted, Martinsen, a Norwegian, quickly adjusted to the NHL last season after four campaigns overseas. He appeared in 55 games with the Avs, having generated four goals, seven assists, and 47 PIM. The 26-year-old also was with AHL San Antonio for 10 contests. While he's proven that he can find the back of the net every once in a while, Martinsen's greatest strength comes in the form of hits -- as noted in the report, he ranked fifth among NHL rookies with 155 hits in 2015-16. If you think the scoring system in your fantasy league will be conducive to defensive contributions, Martinsen should be a nice low-end option next season.
