Canucks' Matt Bartkowski: Heading for free agency

Bartkowski will not be re-signed by Vancouver general manager Jim Benning told reports Thursday.

Analysis:

Bartkowski was an ironman for the Canucks during the 2015-16 campaign as he appeared in 80 contests. Despite suiting up for almost every game, the Pittsburgh-native averaged only 18:37 in ice time per night as was appearing as an infrequent member of either special teams units. Given his limited production, a mere six goals and 12 helpers, it is not surprising that Vancouver is deciding to go a different route on defense. Yet, fantasy owners can likely expect the 28-year-old to get signed by somebody as there is a general lack of experienced blue line depth in the league right now.
