Kings' Anze Kopitar: Claims two major awards Wednesday

Kopitar won the Selke Trophy for top defensive forward Wednesday, along with the Lady Byng Trophy for exhibiting sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with playing ability in the 2015-16 regular season, CSN Bay Area reports.

Analysis:

Kopitar, who recently supplanted Dustin Brown as team captain, beat out Boston's Patrice Bergeron for the Selke award, catching some by surprise. After all, Bergeron won that hardware piece the last two seasons and has been a finalist for five consecutive years - he certainly was better than Kopitar in the faceoff dot, winning 57.1 percent of his draws compared to a rate of 53.5 from the Kings forward. Nonetheless, the Kings did well at the awards ceremony. On top of Kopitar's accolades, Drew Doughty wrapped his mitts around the Norris Trophy for top defenseman.
