Avalanche's Tyson Barrie: GM ruling out trade

The Avalanche will not trade Barrie, per general manager Joe Sakic, Mike Chambers of The Denver Post reports.

Analysis:

Barrie is a pending restricted free agent, meaning Colorado has negotiating rights with the puck-moving defenseman, and it can match offer sheets from other teams. As noted in the report, Barrie is looking for a long-term deal after making $5.2 million over the past two years. He dropped 102 points under that contract, including a career-high 21 tallies on the man advantage in 2015-16. Detroit is an example of a team that really could use a guy like Barrie, but it's looking like he'll stay put with the Avs.
