Canucks' Jared McCann: Traded to Florida

The Canucks traded McCann, a 2016 second-round pick and a 2016 fourth-round pick in exchange for Erik Gudbranson and a 2016 fifth-round pick Wednesday.

Analysis:

The Canucks were in desperate need of a tough big-bodied defender, and were willing to part with one of their more promising young forwards in order to acquire him. McCann only tallied 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) over 69 games with Vancouver last season, but was playing in a limited role, averaging just 12:31 of ice time per game. The Ontario native is only 19-years-old, and has the potential to develop into a solid top-six forward for the Panthers. McCann was hampered by an undisclosed ailment at the end of the 2015-16 campaign, but there's no indication that injury will prevent him from being ready for next season's training camp.
