GM Don Sweeney relayed Thursday that Krug is likely facing offseason shoulder surgery, CSN New England reports.

Analysis:

If Krug does have to undergo a shoulder procedure, it would presumably keep him from playing for Team USA in the upcoming World Championships, though there's nothing to suggest that his status for the start of the 2016-17 season is in any question. Moreover, a balky shoulder could well have contributed to the career-worst 1.6 percent shooting percentage that Krug logged en route to notching just four goals on 244 shots in 81 games this past season. The mobile blueliner did, however, chip in a career-high 40 assists in that span.
