Maria Sharapova wasted little time against unseeded Timea Bacsinszky, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

The French Open champion needed just 60 minutes to dispose of the Swiss qualifier and book a spot in the final 16. Sharapova, the tournament's fifth-ranked seed, will face American Alison Riske in the third round as she seeks her second career Wimbledon title.

Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, seeded 13th, is also moving on, pushing through a tough first set to defeat Spain's Silvia Soler Espinosa 7-5, 6-1.

No. 9 Angelique Kerber won her match on Centre Court, dropping Brit Heather Watson 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.
