Report: NHL, NHLPA discussing expanded postseason

The NHL and NHLPA are reportedly discussing the idea of expanding the NHL postseason from 16 teams to 20, according to Nick Kypreos.

The two sides are expected to meet face-to-face again Wednesday, but the fact they may be talking about expanding the playoffs may be a positive sign.

If four teams are added, the thought is they may play a winner take all game or a best-of-three.

Gary Bettman has told the NHLPA that playing a 48-game schedule will need to begin on January 19th.
