Sundin wishes he retired a member of Leafs
Mats Sundin, Joe Sakic, Pavel Bure and Adam Oates are being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame officially tonight, but yesterday, Mats Sundin told fans at the Legends Classic at the Air Canada Centre that he wished he retired a member of the Maple Leafs, according to the Toronto Star.
“In my last season I wasn’t sure I wasn’t going to play anymore,” Sundin said. “I think it took six months or so before I decided to play again. Sometime it’s out of your control; you can’t decide how your career ends.
He ended his career in the 2008-09 season playing for the Vancouver Canucks, recording nine goals and 19 assists in 41 games.
Sundin, who was captain of the Maple Leafs for ten seasons, is the franchise leader in goals (420) and points (987). He was acquired by the Leafs from the Quebec Nordiques along with Garth Butcher, Todd Warriner and a first round pick for Sylvain Lefebvre, Landon Wilson, Wendel Clark and a first rounder pick on June 28, 1994.
