Ovechkin to stay in KHL after lockout?

Alexander Ovechkin will contemplate staying in the KHL past the end of the NHL lockout if player salaries go down, he told Russian news service RIA Novosti.

Ovechkin is currently playing for Moscow Dynamo in the KHL, the team he played with prior to joining the Washington Capitals after the 2004 NHL lockout.

The 27 year old Capitals star currently has a deal that ties him to his NHL club through the 2020-21 NHL season. Given the terms of the NHL-KHL player movement agreement, he would have to retire from the NHL in order to pursue his career in the KHL full-time.

Ovechkin signed his deal with Dynamo Moscow worth $6 million and began the season with the team. His current deal with the Capitals pays him $9 million a season through 2014, before his salary increases to $10 million through 2021.
