Bettman says "wide gap" remains in labour talks
TORONTO - Gary Bettman says a ``wide gap'' remains between the NHL and its players' association in collective bargaining talks. The NHL commissioner's comments come one day after the unionsubmitted a proposal to the league.
Bettman says he understands what the NHLPA has put forth, but that the two sides see the world differently.He adds that it isn't a full proposal and he is ``disappointed'' that he's still waiting for one at this late stage.
The NHL's current collective bargaining agreement expires Sept.15 and the NHL has said there will be a lockout if a new agreementisn't in place by then.Bettman and NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr won't sit downat the bargaining table together until next Wednesday.
