Report: Wings looking to acquire Jay Bouwmeester
The Detroit Red Wings are in talks with the Calgary Flames to acquire defenceman Jay Bouwmeester, a team source tells MLive.com
The report suggests Calgary would be willing to move the 28-year-old blueliner in order to reduce team payroll in anticipation of a lower salary cap with the new collective bargaining agreement. He is scheduled to make $13.2 million over the next 2 seasons with a cap hit of $6.6 million in each campaign.
In 82 games last season, Bouwmeester recorded 5 goals and 29 points. The 9-year veteran holds the NHL ironman streak among active players with 588 consecutive games played.
