Report: Hagman signs in KHL

Finnish forward Niklas Hagman has signed a contract to play for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the KHL, the team informed RIA Novosti.

The entire Lokomotiv team was killed in a plane crash last year, when the team was headed to their first regular season game. Just one year after finishing in third place in the KHL, the Lokomotiv franchise would not participate in the 2011-12 season. Now, with time to rebuild, Lokomotiv is ready to re-join the KHL for the 2012-13 season.

Hagman has played his last 10 seasons in the NHL, not including the 2004-05 lockout season when he played for HC Davos of the Swiss-A league.

After being traded to the Calgary Flames by the Maple Leafs, in a blockbuster deal that saw Dion Phaneuf come to Toronto, Hagman played parts of two seasons in Calgary. At the early stages of the 2011-12 NHL season, Hagman was waived by the Flames and claimed by the Anaheim Ducks. Hagman would go on to play out the season in Anaheim, ultimately becoming an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Hagman registered 301 points (147 goals, 154 assists) in 770 career regular season games.
