Report: Coyotes' Doan to test free agency
Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan appears poised to test free agency according to a tweet from Adrian Dater of the Denver Post.
Phoenix GM Don Maloney told Dater that Doan will become a UFA on July 1st and test the free agent market. Doan has played his entire career with the Winnipeg Jets/Phoenix Coyotes franchise dating back to his rookie season in 1995-96. He is one of three active players in the NHL to have played for the team in Winnipeg.
In 2011-12, Doan recorded 22 goals and 28 assists in 79 games. He also advanced past the first round of the playoffs for the first time in his career as he scored nine points in 16 games during the Coyotes run to the Western Conference Final.
Doan's expiring contract was a five year deal worth $22.75 million signed in 2007-08. It carried an annual cap hit of $4.55 million and had a no movement clause.
