Report: Alfredsson wanted $7 million from Sens next season
In the wake of Daniel Alfredsson's rather artful, devastating farewell to the city of the Ottawa, a report has surfaced that reveals specifically the amount Alfredsson was looking for in his stalled contract negotiations with the Senators:
Daniel Alfredsson's ask: A one year deal for this season at $7 million. A two-year deal at $12 million. Senators offered $4.5 million. #Sens— Bruce Garrioch (@SunGarrioch) August 15, 2013
$7 million is a sticker shock price tag, no doubt, though Alfredsson's production over the past couple of seasons suggests he's still a useful second line forward.
Alfredsson ultimately signed a one year agreement with the Detroit Red Wings. His current contract with the Red Wings includes $3.5 million in base salary, or less than the Senators were reportedly offering, in addition to $2 million in potential bonuses according to capgeek.com.
Of course, the timing of this particular leak seems awfully convenient from the perspective of the Ottawa Senators. We'll leave you to decide whether to take this new information as gospel, or with the grain of salt one might use to season yet another salvo in the ongoing public relations pitched battle between the Senators and their former captain.
