Cardinals' Andre Ellington active for Monday's game vs. Chargers

Sept 8, 9:10 PM

Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington will be active Monday night against the San Diego Chargers.

Ellington was dealing with a foot injury all week and his status was up in the air for tonight's contest.

Just because he is playing doesn't necessarily mean he's in for a heavy workload. Backup Jonathan Dwyer could still see his fair share of carries.

Andre Ellington's status remains in doubt for Cardinals' game vs. Chargers Monday

Sept 7, 12:53 PM

Despite Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians optimism regarding the status of injured running back Andre Ellington for Monday night's game against the San Diego Chargers, NFL insiders Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter don't expect the sophomore to suit up.

"The vibe we're getting is negative," Schefter said on ESPN Countdown. "We'd be surprised to see him out there Monday night."

Should Ellington sit out, look for Jonathan Dwyer to get the majority of the touches in the Cardinals backfield.

Cardinals' Arians 'optimistic' Andre Ellington will play in season opener

Sept 6, 3:55 PM

The Andre Ellington saga continued on Saturday, with the injured running back's status still very much in the air as the Arizona Cardinals' season opener against the San Diego Chargers draws closer.

Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians also told reporters that Ellington did enough today that he could play Monday, but it will be a game-day decision.

With previous rumors suggesting Ellington's foot injury could sideline him for 4-6 weeks, it'll be interesting to see if he suits up on Monday.

Cardinals' Ellington doesn't practice; status for Monday still up in the air

Sept 5, 8:59 PM

As expected, Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington wasn't on the practice field Friday because of an injured foot.

Ellington remains a question mark for Monday night's game against the San Diego Chargers, as he reportedly needs to simply rest the injury.

Some believe Ellington could be out for an extended period of time, but the Cardinals haven't offered a time frame.

If Ellington can't play, expect Jonathan Dwyer to get the start in the Arizona backfield.

Report: Cardinals' Ellington doesn't require surgery on foot

Sept 5, 1:11 PM

Andre Ellington's foot injury will not require surgery, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

As Rapoport notes, Ellington has been dealing with foot issues for a few weeks, and good old fashioned "rest" may be the only thing the sophomore running back needs to cure what ails him.

Although Rapoport speculates that there's still a chance Ellington suits up for the Cardinals' season opener against the San Diego Chargers on Monday, Fox Sports' Mike Jurecki (who first reported the injury), isn't as confident about the running back's status for this weekend.

Ellington impressed during his rookie season in 2013, racking up 652 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games (one start). The 25-year-old is expected to carry the load as a featured back for the Cardinals this season, and could see his stat sheet explode as a result.

Report: Foot injury could keep Cardinals' Andre Ellington out for an 'extended period of time'

Sept 5, 11:43 AM

It looks as though the foot injury suffered by Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington during practice on Thursday could be worse than originally thought.

Ellington, 25, put up impressive numbers during his rookie campaign in 2013, amassing 652 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games (one start). The Cardinals were no doubt looking to expand Ellington's role, so an extended period on the shelf would be be devastating for the sophomore back.

A sixth-round pick in 2013, Ellington suffered through numerous foot injuries during his collegiate career at Clemson.

Cardinals' Ellington limited in practice with foot injury; reportedly undergoes MRI

Sept 4, 9:53 PM

The Arizona Cardinals are expecting big things from running back Andre Ellington this year, so seeing him limited with a foot injury the Thursday before the start of the season is not an ideal scenario.

Per FOX Sports 910's Mike Jurecki, Ellington suffered the ailment during Thursday's practice. Jurecki later updated that Ellington did indeed undergo an MRI.

Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians didn't mention the injury when speaking to the media, so that could mean it's minor. Still, it's something to monitor as the week progresses if you are an Ellington fantasy owner.
