The Indianapolis Colts have selected center Ryan Kelly out of Alabama in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft on Thursday.

Kelly can play zone or man coverage and figures to be a massive improvement on the Colts' offensive line. Far and away the best center in this year's draft, he's already slated to be the team's starting center for Week 1.

During his collegiate career at Alabama, Kelly started for three years, paved the way for a host of NFL running backs, and was one of the leaders of the Crimson Tide's offense.

Equally adept at run- and pass-blocking, Kelly's immediate goal is protecting franchise quarterback Andrew Luck.

Ryan Kelly Bio

Strengths

  • Intelligent. Opposing coaches raved about his football knowledge and smart in-game adjustments.
  • Leader. Can confidently communicate audibles and assignments with the rest of the offensive line.
  • Consistent. Three-year starter. Doesn't take any plays off or stop until the whistle blows.
  • Balanced. Isn't particularly better at pass blocking than he is at run blocking or vice versa.
  • Most pro-ready center in this year's draft.

Weaknesses

  • Lack of athleticism. More of a competitor than an athlete.
  • Benefited from playing with strong offensive lines and well above average running backs at Alabama.
  • Missed six games between sophomore and junior seasons due to knee injuries.
