Rams add weapon for Goff with WR Pharoh Cooper in 4th round

Jeff Blake / USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Rams have selected receiver Pharoh Cooper out of South Carolina in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, 117th overall.

A highly productive player in college, Cooper brings some versatility to the Rams' receiving corps.

He should have the opportunity to contribute both out wide and in the slot as one of the top passing-game targets for No. 1 overall pick Jared Goff.

Pharoh Cooper Bio

Position: WR
School: South Carolina
College Experience: Junior
Height: 5-11
Weight: 203 lbs.

Strengths

  • Versatile player that can be moved all over the field. Has experience returning kicks and coming out of the backfield.
  • Gets in and out of his breaks quickly and changes directions well with the ball in his hands in space to elude defenders.
  • Works back to the ball. Gets hips turned to give quarterback a good target.
  • Can make plays in traffic and pull in balls with defenders in the area.
  • Gets north and south quickly after the catch on short routes near the line of scrimmage.

Weaknesses

  • Not a major deep threat. Doesn't track balls particularly well on longer pass plays.
  • Can be prone to drops.
  • Lacks the height to climb the ladder with bigger NFL corners.
  • Ran a basic route tree at South Carolina and relied heavily on short screens to pad numbers.
