The San Francisco 49ers have selected wide receiver Aaron Burbridge out of Michigan State in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, 213th overall.

Burbridge will compete against DeAndrew White for the 49ers' fourth wide receiver spot.

The Michigan State product is the first wide receiver selected by the 49ers in this year's class.

Burbridge will need to rely on his intelligence at the pro level as he possesses sub-par speed for a NFL wide receiver.

Aaron Burbridge Bio

Position: WR
School: Michigan State
College Experience: Senior
Height: 6-0
Weight: 206 lbs.

Strengths

  • Competitive. Shows toughness and takes pride in all facets of his game.
  • Playmaker. A natural football player who doesn't wow scouts with any discernible quality other than an ability to get things done.
  • Good route-runner. Can't rely on pure speed to get open, so he focuses on more detailed parts of routes.
  • Makes up for lack of burner speed with short-area quickness, core strength, and non-stop competing. Ideally placed as a slot receiver.

Weaknesses

  • One-year wonder. Had heavy production as a senior, but was often injured and inconsistent in the three years prior.
  • No overly impressive athletic skills. Better competitor than athlete.
  • Undersized. Short arms and small body.
  • Not as fast as most NFL receivers in his size range. Isn't a deep threat.
