The Green Bay Packers have selected offensive tackle Jason Spriggs out of Indiana in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft, 48th overall.

Green Bay's pass protection issues were evident as Aaron Rodgers took a beating on a regular basis in 2015. The quarterback was taken down 46 times last season, only Blake Bortles was sacked more frequently.

The Packers need to do a better job of protecting arguably the league's best player and with Spriggs and Bryan Bulaga at the tackle spots, Green Bay may have done just that.

Jason Spriggs Bio

Position: OT
School: Indiana
College Experience: Senior
Height: 6-6
Weight: 301 lbs.

Strengths

  • Athleticism and quickness set him apart in pass protection as he slides laterally extremely well.
  • Former tight end. Adapted well as a four-year starter at left tackle for the Hoosiers. Was a finalist for the Outland Trophy in senior season.
  • Equally effective in pass protection and run blocking.
  • Had a strong performance against Ohio State's Joey Bosa.

Weaknesses

  • Played in a spread offense at Indiana which could slow his transition to NFL. May only fit in a zone-blocking scheme.
  • Strength could be an issue at the next level as defenders get leverage and use counters on him at will.
  • Hand strength and initial punch could use improvement as he sometimes fails to control defenders off the snap.
