Seahawks GM: Lynch too busy 'riding camels and stuff' to file retirement papers

Despite announcing his retirement during Super Bowl 50, Marshawn Lynch is still listed on the Seattle Seahawks' roster.

Seahawks fans shouldn't get their hopes up about a comeback, though. As general manager John Schneider explained Tuesday, Lynch has just been too busy to file his retirement papers.

"Not really," Schneider told reporters when asked if there's a reason the team has yet to place Lynch on the retired/reserve list. "We just haven't received his papers yet. He's been out of the country riding camels and stuff."

Schneider was referring to Lynch's recent trip to Egypt with American Football Without Borders, where he rode camels and played four square with local kids.

Lynch's contract includes a $11.5-million cap hit for 2016, which will be reduced to $5 million once he officially retires. By designating Lynch as a post-June 1 cut, the Seahawks could defer $2.5 million of that amount to 2017.

"We haven't decided that yet," Schneider said. "It would create some cap room. I'm not sure we're at the point where we specifically need that. We just haven't decided whether or not we're going to wait until then to do it. But it would create some cap room."
