New York Jets owner Woody Johnson lobbied for quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to return to the club next season, as the free agent remains unsigned.

Fitzpatrick is coming off arguably the best season of his career, throwing for 31 touchdowns against 15 interceptions, developing a strong rapport with wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker.

Although he's yet to return to the team, Johnson wants Fitzpatrick to, with Geno Smith slated as the team's starter entering the fall.

"Come back to the Jets," Johnson said, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Johnson said the Jets would be a perfect destination for Fitzpatrick to return to.

"I kind of hope so because he had such a good year last year," Johnson said of Fitzpatrick. "I mean, it seems like an ideal (situation)."

With the Jets' quarterback situation in limbo, the team will need to make a decision soon, or run the risk of imploding under center.
