Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien raved about the team's new starting quarterback Sunday.

After trotting out a carousel of replacement-level starters, the Texans signed quarterback Brock Osweiler to a four-year, $72-million contract on the opening day of free agency. Osweiler previously served as Peyton Manning's backup, but went 5-2 in seven starts with the Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos.

O'Brien said the Texans evaluated Osweiler's entire body of work before signing him.

"We didn't just study the seven games," O'Brien told NFL Network's Steve Wyche on Sunday. "We studied all of the snaps he had. He is tough. He is an accurate passer. I like his leadership. Of all the people who have coached him, everybody spoke highly of him."

Osweiler may be the missing piece in the Texans' quest to capture the AFC South, and entering his first year with the club, the 26-year-old apparently already has the full confidence of his coaching staff.
