Bills GM wouldn't hesitate to draft Jared Goff at No. 19

While it's unlikely former Cal quarterback Jared Goff will be on the board when the Buffalo Bills draft at No. 19, it's a possibility general manager Doug Whaley at least has to consider.

Whaley told SiriusXM NFL Radio on Friday he would have no hesitation taking Goff if he's still available.

"The first part about it is doing the work," Whaley said, per Matthew Fairburn of Syracuse.com. "Again, coming out to Goff's workout expecting that he may not be there (at No. 19), but you have to do the work just in case he's there. You never want to say never in this business, but you always want to be prepared.

"What we'll do, our philosophy, if he is the best, most highly rated guy left on board and we're at 19, we're going to stay true to our board and we're going to take him. I tell everybody, where we are as a team, there's not one position that we wouldn't draft in the first round, second or third round that we wouldn't have a need for. Whether to compete for a starting job or to add depth."

The Bills have Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel under contract, but Whaley has said the team plans to add a quarterback, either in free agency or the draft.

Whaley was among those in attendance for Goff's pro day Friday, and liked what he saw.

"You saw everything you want to see from this guy," Whaley said. "We saw him drive the ball, we saw him put some touch on some long distance throws, some deep throws. We saw him move not only in the pocket but make throws on the run. It was a good day also because we got to see him work with all of his receivers and his interactions between reps with his receivers and how he commands a team and how he would command a huddle."
