The Miami Dolphins are meeting with free-agent running back Chris Johnson on Wednesday, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN, citing a source.

After losing Lamar Miller to free agency, Miami finds itself desperately in need of a running back to pair with 2015 fifth-round draft pick Jay Ajayi.

The club had signed restricted free agent C.J. Anderson to a four-year offer sheet, but lost out on his services when the Denver Broncos made the surprise decision to match.

Johnson, a three-time Pro Bowler, is coming off a resurgent season with the Arizona Cardinals. The 30-year-old helped steady the team's rushing attack with an impressive 814 yards and three touchdowns, despite appearing in just 11 games.

Johnson was one of the league's most dominant backs for an extended stretch after joining the Tennessee Titans as a first-round pick in 2008.

He ran for at least 1,000 yards in six consecutive seasons to start his NFL career, highlighted by a 2009 campaign in which he racked up 2,006 yards and 14 touchdowns.
