Report: Weddle narrows search to 3 teams; decision expected soon

Eric Weddle appears to be closing in on a decision.

The three-time Pro Bowl safety, who hit free agency last week after nine seasons spent with the San Diego Chargers, has narrowed his search to three teams, reports Peter Schrager FOXSports.

A deal with one of the three clubs, Schrager adds, is expected to be reached within the next 24 hours.

Previous reports indicated that Weddle was mulling offers from four teams heading into the weekend, but it remains unclear which teams have been involved in the negotiation process.

The Oakland Raiders, desperately in need of a safety following the retirement of Charles Woodson, are known to be in pursuit of Weddle, Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Thursday.

Among those also having interest in the 31-year-old defensive back are the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Baltimore Ravens, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Weddle has been one of the league's most productive safeties for the better part of his NFL career to this point, and he only continued to play at a high level as his time in San Diego came to a close.

With the initial free-agent frenzy now having come and gone, he's far and away the most coveted player remaining on the open market.
