Report: Broncos restructure DeMarcus Ware's contract

The Denver Broncos have restructured their contract with outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold.

Ware's compensation was reduced from $10 million to $6.5 million, with $4 million in guaranteed money. The nine-time Pro Bowler can earn all of his money back, with $3.5 million available through incentives, according to Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio.

Legwold had previously reported that Ware may not return to Denver if he refused to re-work his deal.

The 33-year-old pass-rusher had 25 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and one forced fumble last season in eleven games, and was named defensive captain for Super Bowl 50. The Broncos see Ware as a third-down rusher moving forward, and an important leader in the locker room.

With the retirement of Jared Allen, Ware is currently second among active NFL players in career sacks with 134.5. Green Bay Packers outside linebacker Julius Peppers is first with 136.

The Broncos' 2015 first-round pick Shane Ray will likely take over for Ware on first and second downs opposite Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller.
