Olivier Vernon is apparently headed to New York on a record-setting deal.

The New York Giants have landed the now-former Miami Dolphins defensive end on a five-year, $85-million deal that includes $52.5 million in guarantees, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Vernon's monster contract, in terms of both overall value and guaranteed money, is reportedly the largest for a 4-3 defensive end in NFL history.

Having entered the offseason with substantial needs on the defensive front - an area of the roster that was paramount in each of the club's recent Super Bowl titles - the Giants wasted no time putting their salary-cap space to use.

New York also re-signed Jason Pierre-Paul to a reported one-year, $10.5-million deal ahead of free agency, and reportedly agreed to a five-year, $46.25-million contract with a dominant run-stuffing nose tackle in Damon Harrison.

The three linemen will join standout tackle Johnathan Hankins in forming arguably the league's most dominant defensive line for several years to come.

Vernon, who recorded 29 sacks over four seasons to start his career in Miami, officially became an unrestricted free agent when the Dolphins elected to pull his transition-tag designation.
