The Miami Dolphins announced Wednesday they've pulled the transition tag from defensive end Olivier Vernon.

The move means Vernon will become a free agent once the signing period opens Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET. It also ensures the Dolphins will receive a compensatory draft pick once he leaves.

The New York Giants are among the teams expected to make a run at Vernon, as Jordan Raanan of NJ.com reports he's considered their top free-agent priority.

The 25-year-old has yet to miss a game since entering the NFL in 2012, racking up 196 tackles, 29 sacks, and four forced fumbles.
