Free-agent wide receiver Travis Benjamin is planning to sign with the San Diego Chargers when the free agency signing period opens Wednesday, according to Rand Getlin of NFL Network.

Benjamin was one of the top receivers on the market after a breakout season in 2015 with the Cleveland Browns, and it was expected he would return to the team after he expressed serious intent on doing so during the season.

Instead, Benjamin will trade in the uncertainty of the Browns' quarterback situation for a perennial Pro-Bowler in Philip Rivers.

The Chargers fought off a ton of interest from other teams, including the Browns, Atlanta Falcons, and Houston Texans, notes Getlin, which was expected seeing as Benjamin was one of the few valuable wideouts in a weak free-agent market.

Benjamin will bring a dynamic deep threat to the Chargers which should perfectly complement the skills of Keenan Allen, giving Rivers arguably the most intimidating receiving corps of his career.

Despite inconsistent quarterback play, Benjamin caught a career-high 68 passes for 966 yards and five touchdowns last season.
