Eric Weddle believes he has 3-5 years left

Eric Weddle will hit the open market Wednesday after spending the last nine seasons with the San Diego Chargers, and is hoping to land somewhere that gives him the opportunity to compete for a championship.

Despite missing three games last season with a nagging groin injury and experiencing a decline in production, the 31-year-old safety insists he has plenty left in the tank.

"I've got three to five years left in me," Weddle told Peter King of The MMQB. "I want to go somewhere I have a chance to win a Super Bowl. Until last year I've never been injured. I've never had surgery. I don't drink, I don't go out. My shoulders, back, legs, hip, they're all fine. I think I bring a lot to a team."

Among the teams Weddle sees himself as a good fit with is the New England Patriots, whom he's squared off against plenty of times throughout his career.

"It would be funny if I ended up there," he said. "We've played them so many times. The thing I like about them is they don't have an ego. It's insane to think about how good they've been. I've been to just one AFC championship game. They've been there every year. You respect it, you envy it, you admire it."

Weddle also views the Oakland Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Carolina Panthers as ideal landing spots.
